Take the viral blueberry latte a step further by making it using this creamy and Dreamy Homemade Blueberry Almond Milk that uses a homemade blueberry compote, and is completely refined sugar-free! This recipe comes together in just a few easy steps, but I’ll warn that it does require a little prep to make the ingredients that go into it (but totally worth it to have this delicious blueberry latte ready to make all week long!).

The Secret To Making The Perfect Blueberry Latte: Blueberry Almond Milk

The blueberry syrup is of course important to the flavor of the blueberry latte, but the real kicker (IMO) is really bringing the flavor home with blueberry almond milk, which I conveniently have a super simple recipe for linked here! 😉

Most blueberry lattes are made with a regular milk or milk substitute of choice, but I wanted to go the extra step with this recipe and create a latte that really embodied the natural and authentic blueberry flavor without putting all of the weight on a flavored syrup. My blueberry almond milk is made using frozen blueberries so you can make it year-around. My blueberry latte recipe calls for blueberry almond milk, so I like to go for a two-for-one here and set aside some of the compote to create a syrup as well.

The Best Part About THIS Blueberry Latte

My absolute favorite thing about this Blueberry Latte recipe is that I know what ingredients are in every component of it. The compote is made using frozen blueberries, fresh lemon juice, and honey. The almond milk is made using the homemade blueberry compote, almonds, and water. Then the latte combines these two things with the addition of fresh espresso. There is not refined sugar in this recipe, and it is also completely dairy-free because of the almond milk.

How To Make Blueberry Compote

The blueberry compote that goes into the almond milk and syrup for this recipe is probably the most time-consuming part of this recipe (it takes about 15 minutes over the stove, plus cooling time). To make blueberry compote, you’ll want to add your berries, fresh lemon juice, and honey to a sauce pan and place it over medium heat – stirring every few minutes. Once the berries become soft and begin to burst, remove them from the heat and transfer them to a jar or bowl to cool. Depending on how thin you want your blueberry syrup, stir water into the mixture and allow it to cook for another two minutes before removing it from the heat.

At this point, you’ll want to strain the liquid from the berries and set it aside, then add your cooked and cooled berries to your blender to make your almond milk. I like to add some of the syrup into the actual almond milk as well before blending, but that’s optional.
