Turmeric and Cinnamon: Wonder Spices With Tons of Health Benefits
Turmeric is a root with a beautiful orange color that’s been used for centuries predominantly in Indian and Asian food. It adds great flavor to dishes, but the reason I love it the most is because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric contains the active ingredient curcumin, a natural compound responsible for the root’s healing properties, making it a great addition to an anti-inflammatory diet (Brown).
Cinnamon, a beloved spice in many kitchens derived from inner tree bark, is also rich in antioxidants, giving this latte a super boost of health benefits! It’s also been known to have anti-inflammatory properties, help lower blood sugar, and protect against certain diseases (“10 Evidence-Based Health Benefits of Cinnamon”).

Why I Created This Anti-Inflammatory Recipe
Earlier this year, I discovered that my body produces antibodies that attack my thyroid. My doctor highly recommended that I stick to an anti-inflammatory diet because of the correlation between thyroid function and inflammation. I create most recipes, including this latte, with anti-inflammatory properties in mind. I’ve noticed that eating as clean as possible has made me feel better, heal faster, and help with my overall cognitive function. I am by no means a doctor or registered dietician, but I did want to share my personal “why” for creating recipes like this one because eating this way really has positively impacted my health, and I figured maybe it could help others, too.
