How to Make This Recipe For Cauliflower Pizza Crust Using Riced Cauliflower

When I designed this recipe, I was pinched for time and cauliflower was not in season, but I really wanted to make a gluten-free pizza that tasted delicious and had extra veggies in it, if possible. I fell in love with the Trader Joe’s cauliflower pizza, so that was my inspiration for this recipe. Something simple, gluten-free, and easy to make and store! Because of all these factors, I landed on using frozen riced cauliflower as my base for this recipe for cauliflower pizza crust. The process is similar to that of using fresh cauliflower, but you don’t have to manually rice it! You just bake it for 10-15 minutes, strain out the excess liquids using a nut milk bag or cheese cloth, and then combine it with your ingredients to make your pizza dough. From there, you’ll do a pre-bake of the crust, then add your toppings and finish baking.

While this cauli crust recipe requires a few oven in-and-outs, the oven can be left on at the same temperature during the entire process. At first, I felt like it seemed like a lot of work to make this, but it actually goes by quickly and is a much easier process than making regular dough from scratch and having to wait for it to proof, etc.

Why You’ll Love This Pizza Crust Using Cauliflower Recipe

This cauliflower pizza crust uses ingredients that you probably already have lying around your pantry and freezer – and these same ingredients are ones that you can stock up on and they will last a long time, so you can have them on hand in the future for when you want to make this cauliflower pizza crust! It uses a few simple ingredients, which I’ve listed below.

GF Pizza Crust

One huge bonus about this recipe is that it is actually completely gluten-free! Normal pizza crust uses flour which contains gluten, but since cauliflower is a vegetable and the staple ingredient here, it creates a completely GF pizza crust. The texture and thickness of this cauli crust resembles a thin crust pizza, but you could also use this to make gluten-free flatbread as well by changing the shape to a long rectangle and assembling it with your flatbread toppings of choice.

Cauli Crust Ingredients:

  • Frozen Riced Cauliflower
  • Egg
  • Oregano
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Grated Parmesan or Pecorino Romano Cheese

How to Make Cauliflower Pizza Crust:

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F

Prepare Your Cauliflower Rice: Start by placing your frozen riced cauliflower on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and placing it in the oven for roughly 15 minutes. This will help you extract any excess liquids from the riced cauliflower in the next step. Remove and let your riced cauliflower cool to a temperature that is comfortable to handle.

Strain Liquids From Riced Cauliflower: Once cooled to a comfortable temperature, transfer your cauliflower rice to a nut milk bag or cheese cloth and wring any excess liquid out of your cauliflower rice. Once the liquids have been removed, discard that excess liquid and place your cauliflower rice back in your empty bowl.

Create Your Cauliflower Crust Dough: In your bowl, add your egg, oregano, salt, pepper, and grated Parmesan or Pecorino cheese (whichever you prefer) to your dough. Mix well until the dough is completely combined.

Shape and Bake Your Dough: Place your dough on a parchment-lined baking sheet in whatever shape you would like. I did a heart shape for Valentine’s Day, but you can do a circle, square – whatever you want! Flatten your dough down evenly and place it back in the oven for 15-20 minutes until your cauli crust starts to get a light golden color on the top.

Add Your Toppings and Finish Baking: Once your cauliflower crust is showing signs of a light golden top layer, remove it from the oven and add your sauce and other toppings of choice! For my pizza, I made a simple homemade red sauce and fresh mozzarella, then added Cremini Mushrooms and Artichokes to the top as well. Finish your cauliflower crust pizza off with a light olive oil drizzle, and place it back in the oven for 10-12 minutes minutes until your toppings are baked.

Serve and Enjoy: Remove your pizza from the oven and allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes before cutting, plating, and serving. Enjoy your homemade cauliflower crust pizza!
