Natural Peanut Butter Recipe – Made With Only One Ingredient At Home!
It’s the little things in life – like realizing that making natural peanut butter at home is as easy as adding unsalted peanuts to a food processor. Why did I not start making my own homemade peanut butter years ago? It tastes so much better than store bought peanut butter, too! You can, of course, customize your homemade peanut butter recipe by making it sweet or salty, but at the end of the day, all you need is one ingredient to make a wholesome peanut butter spread without any added sugars, oils, or preservatives.
Making the Switch to Natural Peanut Butter
Growing up, I used to love Skippy and Jiff peanut butter – I always wondered how it could be SO creamy, and SO delicious. I ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches almost daily as a kid, slathered PB between Oreo cookies (thank you, Parent Trap!), and would even eat it by the spoonful.
As I got older and grew more conscious of what was going into the foods that I bought from the store, I looked at the back of a peanut butter jar label and was horrified to see oil and sugar as some of the main components in my favorite childhood spread. I started researching how to make natural peanut butter, which didn’t take very long considering it only takes a single ingredient to make at home.
Since then, I haven’t bought peanut butter from the store, and can enjoy my homemade peanut butter knowing exactly what’s in it!

Customizing Your Natural Peanut Butter Recipe
Making your own natural peanut butter at home gives you the power of customization. This recipe is for creamy peanut butter, but if you prefer crunchy peanut butter that can easily be done!
To make crunchy peanut butter: you’ll want to set aside some of your peanuts and chop them up. Process the majority of your peanuts per the instructions below. Once your peanut butter has reached your desired consistency, transfer it to a mixing bowl and fold your peanuts into the peanut butter until combined. For a creamy peanut butter, just process all of your peanuts instead of setting any aside.
Sweet Peanut Butter – Just Add Honey!: If you prefer sweeter peanut butter, I recommend adding a couple of teaspoons of honey when you’re processing your peanuts. Don’t be afraid to taste your peanut butter along the way and adjust the flavor based on what you like.
Salty Peanut Butter: On the other hand, if you prefer salty peanut butter then start by adding a little salt and tasting until you reach your desired peanut butter saltiness. You can also process salted peanuts (as opposed to unsalted – per the recipe) if you like salty peanut butter.
What You Need to Make Natural Peanut Butter at Home
The great thing about making nut butter from home is you really only need one tool, a food processor or a high speed blender, to break down your peanuts and give them that creamy consistency.
My favorite food processor that I use to make peanut butter at home the the Oster two-in-one food processor and blender – I love this one because you can use the same base for the high speed blender and the food processor attachments so it saves kitchen space! It’s also powerful and has multiple settings so you can pulse or adjust the speed however you like.

How to Make Peanut Butter from Scratch
Since it uses just one simple ingredient, making peanut butter at home is quick and easy! Here’s how to make it:
Process Your Peanuts: Add your dry roasted, unsalted peanuts (or salted, if you prefer not to add salt in later) to your food processor. Make sure the lid is secure and hold it down at first as the peanuts will initially be tough the break down. Pulse your peanuts a few times until they start to break down.
Be Patient Processing Your Nut Butter: It will take a few minutes for your peanuts to fully become peanut butter. A thick paste will form, but this does not mean that your peanut butter is done! Continue processing your peanut butter until it is creamy and more liquid than solid (I promise it’ll get there!).
Store Your Peanut Butter: Transfer your natural peanut butter into a jar with a lid or a sealable container and keep it in the fridge or pantry. I recommend the refrigerator.
Enjoy your homemade peanut butter!
