Pumpkin Spice Shaken Espresso: A Dairy-Free and Refined Sugar-Free Recipe
I love fall pumpkin coffee drinks from Starbucks – so much so that I’d order them every day if they didn’t break the bank and leave me feeling sluggish! That’s why I’ve created this recipe that’s dairy-free and refined sugar-free, so you can enjoy your morning Autumn coffee drink without the sugar and dairy crash later!
This recipe is basically a modified latte recipe that uses almond milk, but you can substitute it for any other dairy alternative. If you want to skip the store-bought milk alternatives altogether, I have a super easy recipe for homemade almond milk that would be amazing in this!

Starting the Day with Wholesome Ingredients in This Modified Latte Recipe
I’m the kind of person who goes to sleep at night looking forward to the cup of coffee that I’m going to have the next morning, there’s no changing me at this point. One thing I’ve found is that I don’t do well when I start my day off with a sugar-packed coffee. Don’t get me wrong, I love all things sweet, but the afternoon crash just isn’t worth it to me, so I stay away from syrups and sweeteners altogether. This recipe uses pure pumpkin, raw honey, cinnamon, and straight almond milk – leaving out any excess additives and sugars so you won’t crash a few hours after drinking it.
Pumpkin Latte Meets Shaken Espresso
I was enamored when Starbucks rolled out its Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso. I love espresso, and the way they do it in this drink is delicious! From that point on, shaken espresso became one of my favorite ways to enjoy my morning caffeine. Starbucks pumpkin drinks have always been a favorite of mine during the fall season as well, so I created this Pumpkin Spice Shaken Espresso recipe as somewhat of a play on the Starbucks Pumpkin Latte as well!
I like to use repurposed peanut butter and jelly jars to make my shaken espresso because they already come with a lid making it easy to add all of my ingredients into them and shake it up – I highly recommend doing this or using Mason jars for this drink! It makes it much easier to mix, plus it adds a cute, rustic flare for Fall.
How to Make Pumpkin Spice Shaken Espresso:
Combine Your Ingredients: Like you would in a traditional latte recipe, start by adding your almond milk (or other milk alternative) to a jar with the pumpkin, honey, and cinnamon. Add in your ice and espresso on top, and seal your jar with a lid.
Shake Your Espresso: Once sealed, shake your jar for 20-30 seconds to ensure that all of the ingredients evenly combine. Use a spoon to mix in any excess honey at the bottom of your jar after shaking if needed.
Serve Your Shaken Espresso: Add in some additional ice and pumpkin spice or cinnamon on top of your drink after it’s all shaken up and enjoy!
Pumpkin Ingredients:
- Vanilla Almond Milk
- Pure Pumpkin
- Honey
- Cinnamon
- Espresso (I use a double-shot in this recipe)
- Ice
- Pumpkin Pie Spice (optional garnish)
